Points of Dispensing (POD) Training: POD's are places that have been established in our community to allow for response in the event of a large number of people being exposed to a biological or chemical agent for which treatment can be readily deployed. The idea is to staff these POD sites so that the public can recieve medication that they need in order to avoid illness. It is worth noting that these POD sites are not intended to treat ill persons, but only those exposed and not ill. In order to do this BCPHD recruits volunteers from throughout the community who are willing to train and participate in exercises so that, if a real event were ever to occur, we would be ready to respond.
Here are some valuable resources for training and education.
Available Online Trainings include training available from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in which one can come to understand the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incidence Command System (ICS). These courses are essential for understanding how to coorindation with emergency responders and those interested in volunteering should at minimum consider the ICS 100 traing course.
